NRV CARES provides the community with: - Community Education about the issues of child abuse and neglect, emphasizing the importance of Prevention;
- Direct Parent Education programs, and
- Court Advocacy for abused and neglected children.
NRV CARES services are available to all citizens living in the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski, Giles, Floyd and the City of Radford. NRV CARES, with the help of the New River Valley community, strives to improve the lives of the smallest and most defenseless members of our society while helping to support an environment where families can thrive. Our programs include: Parenting Young Children Courses using the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) curriculum for parents/caregives of children ages birth to 6 years. Community Education Activities which include a variety of programs designed to address the issues of child abuse and neglect. Community Presentations, projects in local schools and awareness campaigns are all part of the work of NRV CARES for children and families in the New River Valley. CASA of the New River Valley | CASA trains volunteers who are dedicated to advocating for safe, permanent homes for abused and neglected children who are involved in court proceedings. The New River Valley is home to 25 trained CASA volunteers. These volunteers are sworn officers of the court and act as the "eyes and ears" of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judges. |
